The Museum of Zuni Art (MoZA) is uniquely dedicated to the exclusive presentation of both historic and contemporary Zuni art. Its proximity to the Zuni Pueblo and Interstate 40 in Gallup, NM, allows it to educate the general public and serve as a resource for Zuni artists seeking an outlet for their work through exhibitions and reconnection with the art of their predecessors.
An on-site monitor is available for visitors who wish to view all online ZARTeam artwork.
MoZA came as an unexpected and welcome surprise. To create the initial inventory for the ZART program website, the Foundation's followers, collectors of Zuni art, and Zuni artists donated artwork. Many pieces were of museum-quality and included works by artists who are no longer producing. These pieces were withheld from being sold on the ZART website and formed the basis of the MoZA collection.
ZART helps serve the needs of the Zuni artist community, enabling them to access online markets through the ZARTeam website. Zuni artists sell their work at fair market prices and meet and discuss how to present their work best. ZART provides education, training, and the equipment that makes it possible, offering Zunis well-paying jobs to accomplish those goals.
Artists learn from their web page how to best present their work and use eCommerce sales data.
ZART is a model for pricing, presenting, and enhancing artists’ work for other venues.
ZART maintains archival records of sales and buyers and is a resource for the history of the artwork, provenance, and a possible source for museum collections.
ZART created a space for operating the ZART website. Jobs were created for team members introduced to creating high-quality digital photography, processing images, and website maintenance.
Selling through e-commerce. Inventory on the ZART website consists of donated Zuni artwork items available for direct purchase from Zuni artists. Restricted contributions can be made for specific purposes, i.e., Display fixtures, promotional materials, etc.) Donations of Zuni artwork and income from e-commerce sales of Zuni artwork are used to purchase additional artwork directly from Zuni artists. The Keshi Foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit and continues to operate as an all-volunteer organization.
Direct purchase of Zuni artwork from Zunis at fair market prices is a significant step towards empowering the Zuni community. For many years, outside entities have controlled commerce with Zuni artists, creating situations where artists must either sell at below-market prices or not sell at all. Our direct purchase initiative changes this narrative and provides a fair platform for Zuni artists to showcase and sell their work.
